The Renaissance began soon after the Black Death killed 1/3 of the population in Europe. Most historians consider April the 6th, 1341, the date of Francesco Petrarch being crowned Poet Laureate being the beginning date of the Renaissance. During the Renaissance, there were many job opportunities at higher wages since the Black Death had killed so many people, and there were not enough people to work. However, this meant that people were richer than usual, and were able to afford art, which increased the amount of artists and architects. In this time, there were humanists, those who studied the Greek and Roman teachings and art forms, which also increased the amount and quality of the art in the Renaissance. This era was also a time for the Church's reformation, led by Martin Luther, who posted his 90 theses on the Church of Wittenburg. The Renaissance ended with the sack of Rome by the imperial army. Now, we will look in more detail about the most important dates of the Renaissance.
